- Power the Mac on in a dark room.
- Shine a phone flashlight on the panel at an angle.
- If you can see windows or the desktop faintly, the LCD is usually alive — backlight / flex path is the suspect.
- If the panel is black with no image, shattered, or has liquid under the glass, plan for display replacement.
