MacBook Air M1 no power — logic board repair Chennai

An M1 Air that will not turn on is often a power-path or PMIC fault. Here is the bench checklist we use in Chennai before recommending micro-soldering.

M1 MacBook Air machines that suddenly go dark are one of the most common board jobs we see at Mount Road. Customers have usually already tried a second charger, an SMC-style reset that does not exist on Apple Silicon, and another night on the cable.

Quick checks before you visit

  1. Try a known-good USB-C charger and cable rated for your Air (30W or higher).
  2. Leave it on charge 15 minutes, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
  3. Listen for a faint fan or click. Watch for any LED on MagSafe (if your adapter has one).
  4. If an external display never wakes and USB devices never enumerate, treat it as a power-path fault.
Command-R and SMC resets from Intel guides do not apply to M1. Holding the power button for Startup Options only works when the board can already boot firmware.

What we check on the bench

  • USB-C port and CD321x / charging path continuity.
  • PPBUS / PP3V3 rail shorts and PMIC behaviour.
  • Liquid or corrosion under shields — coffee and AC condensate are common in Chennai.
  • Whether the SSD enumerates (needed for data recovery).

Repair options

When diagnosis points to a failed IC or shorted rail, we quote component-level micro-soldering instead of a full logic board. Turnaround is typically 1–3 days after parts confirmation. All completed board repairs carry a 90-day warranty.

Frequently asked questions

My MacBook Air M1 is completely dead. Is the board finished?

Not always. Failed chargers, USB-C port damage, liquid under the shields, or a shorted power rail can look identical to a “dead” board. We diagnose before quoting a full board swap.

Can Apple Silicon logic boards be repaired?

Many power, charging, and liquid faults can be repaired at chip level. Some NAND or SoC failures cannot. We share options after free diagnosis.

Should I try DFU restore first?

Only if the Mac shows some life (fan spin, USB enumeration). A totally dead M1 with no USB response needs power-rail diagnosis first — DFU will not wake a board with no voltage.

Can you recover my files?

Often yes when the SSD still enumerates after we restore power. Data recovery is a billed service — see our data recovery page.
